A tiny shop in a small village north of Lima is filled to overflowing with all manner of intricately woven hats, baskets, bags and, yes, earrings. It’s a family enterprise, with mother teaching daughter the art and craft of weaving the amazingly thin strands of straw – paja, in Spanish. The techniques have been handed down for so many generations that no one can imagine a time when the women in the village didn’t weave.

We asked another artisan to cap these earrings in sterling silver to set off the patterns in these casual but very special earrings. Let us select a pattern for you; all are geometric, woven in natural and chocolate brown.
