A tiny shop in a small village north of Lima is filled to overflowing with all manner of intricately woven bracelets and earrings. It’s a family enterprise, with mother teaching daughter the art and craft of weaving the amazingly thin strands of straw – paja. The techniques have been handed down for so many generations that no one can imagine a time when the women in the village didn’t weave.
