![]() ![]() ![]() | Artisan Jewelry PartnershipTee-khan-chai means "to make beautiful" in the ancient Quechua language of the Incas. It describes both our jewelry and our mission. We work directly with Peruvian artisan designers and import this fine handcrafted jewelry ourselves so that we can offer you distinctive design and quality in sterling silver. Tikanchay jewelry has a story to tell. Its the story of the silver jewelry Elaine brought home from her frequent trips to Peru, and the pleasure it gave her, her sister Robin and her friend Meg to wear it. The distinctive designs drew so many compliments that we were inspired to form a partnership and launch Tikanchay.com.Elaine married into a Peruvian family and has traveled extensively in Peru for 25 years. Her knowledge of the country and her affection for the people run deep. She brings many years of entrepreneurial experience to Tikanchay, as the owner or partner in Peruvian restaurants, a food import business and a cleaning business. Robin's experience in corporate finance and her organizational savvy keep the Tikanchay enterprise humming, and Meg leverages her expertise in strategic design and marketing. It's the story of Elaine's travels to seek out elements and techniques that represent the traditions and artistry of Peru; bright red huayruro seeds from the Amazon jungle; spondylus shells from Peruvian coastal waters; small pieces of gourd carved using ancient techniques, and native semi-precious stones, all set in sterling silver. From the beginning, we knew that the Tikanchay story would include efforts to promote the self-sufficiency of the silversmiths who create our jewelry. Part of our company mission is to ensure that all the artisans we work with are fairly compensated and to sustain their entrepreneurial success.
